Diabolical goals to concede

31 December 2016

John Sheridan was again left disappointed with the goals his team conceded as they ended 2016 with a 3-2 defeat at home to promotion-chasing Carlisle United.

Charlie Wyke gave the visitors the lead but Jon Stead's 10th of the season and a strike from Jonathan Forte put Notts in the driving seat.

However, further goals from Jabo Ibehre and Jason Kennedy meant the Cumbrians left Meadow Lane with all three points.

The manager said: "We were in the game but then go a goal behind and then, give a bit of credit to the players, we showed a bit of spirit to come back and take the lead.

"The goal just before half time has knocked us back a bit. But the second half performance was just a non-entity. There was nothing there for me; we just give ourselves so many problems and the three goals we conceded were just diabolical.

"I’ll blame myself because I pick the team, but the decision making of some of the team throughout the season has been shambolic. I don’t know what the mentality or the thinking is of the players on the pitch.

"I said at the start of the season the home form is going to be massive. If you’re not winning games at home it’s more difficult to win away from home.

"I’m not going to make excuses. I can only say I’m going to do better and the team is going to work harder but I’m saying the same thing.

"We’ve lost again, it’s very similar to the way way we’ve lost many games, probably similar to last week. We’re in the game, we’re playing against one of the teams at the top, we’re competing with them but then we can’t give goals the way we give goals to opposition and give them chances."
