A Lasting Relationship

11 July 2012

The partnership with Help The Hospices may have ended, but there will always be a lasting relationship with the club...

Over the past season the Magpies and all other Football League clubs have teamed up with their local hospice to support The Football League’s official charity partnership with Help the Hospices.

Notts raised a fantastic £6,175.18 for Nottinghamshire Hospice last season in a whole number of different events and ways.

The club strived to give the Hospice as much support as possible, after Help The Hospices was selected as the Football League's 2011/12 official charity partner.

In 2011, the playing squad took part in a Santa Stroll fund-raiser and paid the residents a special visit.

unty fans also donated generously in a bucket collection when the Magpies took on Hartlepool United at Meadow Lane, and former Manager Martin Allen raised further cash by auctioning off Alessandro Del Piero's training jersey, following the team's friendly with Juventus, as well as auctioning the chance to take part in training sessions with the squad.

Supporters have also played a huge part through a Lifeline donation and also raising money through a number of different fundraising ideas including the Arch to Arc bike ride at the end of the season.

Corporate & Community Fundraiser, Kate Purdue, told the Official Site: "The amount raised has been achieved through, bucket collections, a donation from Lifeline, charity auctions, players whip round, raffles and donations by members of the public.

"We are delighted with this amount raised and it will go some way towards maintaining our services for local people with a life limiting illness in Nottingham."

Each club has raised money directly for their local hospice, helping them continue to provide vital care for adults and children with life-limiting illnesses and their friends and family.

David Praill, chief executive of Help the Hospices, said:“Football fans and hospice supporters alike are deeply passionate and loyal towards their local communities, so there has been a tremendous amount of goodwill behind our partnership with The Football League and this has allowed us to tell millions of people about hospice care.

“We also hope that through this partnership a lasting relationship will have formed between clubs and their local hospices and we hope this mutual
support will continue into the future.”

Greg Clarke, Chairman of The Football League, added: “Football League crowds topped 16 million last season and statistically half of those attending games will know someone who has been cared for by a hospice. Our partnership with Help the Hospices has touched the hearts of many of our fans this season and allowed us to make a real difference at a local level.”

Everyone at Meadow Lane would like to thank all supporters for promoting the great work that the local charity does throughout the 2011.2012 season.
