Notts Youth Team again faced a tough outfit as part of their pre-season campaign, but coach Brett Adams and his side know they have to patient.

The squad lost 3-1 to Birmingham City at the weekend, but Adams was pleased in the final hour of the game.

He told the Official Site: "The match was split into three 30-minute thirds and we didn't start off great.

"They were physical, they moved the ball around quickly and it caught our lads off guard.

"By going up against these sides, they now know what level they need to be at, so we can progress and move forward.

"We need to pass the ball with a lot more conviction and when we create chances we need to take them, be a bit more ruthless infront of goal."

The team were 2-0 down after the first third, but the side improved.

Adams said: "We did a lot better in the final 60. We put a lot more pressure onto them and that was pleasing.

We then went 3-0 down, but it was a lot better and our distribution improved."

Striker Romello Nangle was praised after a well-taken goal and a lively display.

Adams added: "He’s still got a long way to go, but he excited us all when he got on the ball. We were pleased he got on the scoresheet. He ran at defenders and he worked hard.

"He was very creative and put defenders on their back foot. Some of the Under 16s also came in and did a good job."

"It was our fourth friendly and we continue to learn. We are learning as a team.  We need to patient again, like last year. We have some very good individuals, but we need to keep working as a team.

"Last year we managed to get four professionals through and we will be looking to get similar numbers again this year.

"It was a tricky start to the season last year, but the lads matured and settled in. Hopefully the confidence can grow quicker this time around."

The squad now have three more friendlies, including an in-house match in a behind closed door later this week. They then face Peterborough on Saturday, with another match hopefully planned ahead of the Hull City fixture on August 11.
