Only Grin When We're Winning

18 August 2012

Summer recruit sets his sights on team success over personal glory…

Francois Zoko does not care what types of goals he scores, as long as it helps the Magpies to achieve success on the pitch.

Zoko arrived at Meadow Lane earlier this month, after leaving Carlisle United at the end of last season.

The forward netted 14 times for the Cumbrians in 2011.12 and is known to pop up with the odd spectacular finish.

However, the 29-year-old is not bothered how the ball crosses the line – he just wants to win football matches, starting with this afternoon’s League 1 opener with Crewe Alexandra.

Speaking on Magpie Player, he said: “I like to score the goal when the ball goals past the line and the referee says ‘goal’!

“For me a goal is a goal, and when it goes in I’m really a happy but I’m more happy when the team wins.

“Like everyone else, I don’t like losing so when I’m in the team I try to do everything to win the game.

“This is how I think, I’m happy if the team is in a good position and we win.

“After this, if I score I’m normally more happy.”

He added: “I think there’s a good team and a good manager, a good area, a good city and good people here.

“We have good players so, for me, we have a good chance.

“There’s so much speak about promotion and I’m really sure that we can do something good.”
