RIP Ron Fenton

26 September 2013

Notts County Football Club has been saddened to hear that former manager Ron Fenton passed away at the age of 72 on Wednesday.

Ron arrived at Meadow Lane as reserve team manager on 19 November 1969  - the same day as Jimmy Sirrel, who sadly left us five years ago on 25 September 2008). They came together from Brentford.

Ron was later promoted to first team duties between 1975 and 1977, following Jimmy’s decision to take up the managerial position at Sheffield United.

After leaving Notts, Ron spent 10 years on the coaching staff at Nottingham Forest and a further six as assistant to one of the game’s greatest ever bosses, Brian Clough.

As a player, the South Shields-born inside forward represented Burnley (1957-62), West Bromwich Albion (1962-65), Birmingham City (1965-68) and Brentford (1968-70).

Everyone at Meadow Lane conveys their sincere condolences to Ron's widow, Pat and all members of their family at this difficult time.

Feel free to share your memories of Ron on our official Facebook and Twitter pages.
