Gymnast and Notts County fan Sam Oldham says he has no regrets about changing his Magpies shirt for a Team GB vest.

The Nottingham-born 19-year-old is currently competing at the London 2012 Olympic Games for the home nation with gold medal hope Louis Smith.

It is quite the contrast from his first love, football, which saw him have trials for both Notts and local rivals Nottingham Forest.

A Magpies fan, he played for the club's School of Excellence before deciding to take up gymnastics, landing a place in the British squad for the Games.

"I started playing football locally when I was about five or six, and my granddad and my dad were both professionals," said Oldham, who lives in Keyworth.

"I carried on playing football until I was about 13 and at the time I was on a contract with Notts County but also doing gymnastics at a high level and it was becoming difficult to balance the two.

"In the end I chose gymnastics and luckily for me that paid off.

"Football is a big part of my life and I keep in touch. I am still a Notts County fan."
