First time Magpies

6 August 2018

Two young fans had a day to remember at their first Notts game when the Magpies hosted Colchester United on 4 August.

Grandad Paul and mum Claire brought Cole and Corey Clarke to Meadow Lane for the first time after the two boys recently developed an interest in football - a ‘homecoming’, according to Claire!

And Notts’ fan engagement team made sure it was an induction to remember by selecting the boys to take part in half-time high fives, allowing them to rub shoulders with the players.

They also ran around the skills centre for an hour before the match, bought sweets from the tuck shop and shouted ‘Come on you Pies’ loudly and proudly!

Cole and Corey now say they want to go to another 20 games and, with Paul delighted to have memories of his grandsons enjoying the football, they’re sure to go to many more.

Paul’s interest has been there for much longer. A County fan since the days of Don Masson and Jimmy Sirrell, he was taught to play football by Brian Bates.

Meanwhile, Claire joined Paul in supporting Notts and used to follow the team home and away until she had the boys – including the trip to Juventus in 2011.

Paul has a season ticket in the Derek Pavis Stand but, with his grandsons’ new-found love, plans to take in a few games with them from the Haydn Green Family Stand.

And, if they’re on their best behaviour, they might even watch Notts away from home some day soon - which Claire says both boys are desperate for.
