Charlie Colkett has joined us on loan until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old arrives from Crewe Alexandra, bolstering our central midfield options for the remainder of the campaign.
Colkett, a highly-rated product of Chelsea’s academy, has significant experience in League One and made almost 70 Swedish top-flight appearances during a three-year spell with Ostersunds between 2019-2021.
He also sampled life in the Eredivisie with Vitesse Arnhem - and Richard Montague, who sits on our board and leads on recruitment, believes he will be an excellent addition to the squad.
Montague said: “Many people will know Charlie’s name from the many successes he enjoyed as captain of Chelsea’s youth team, which also included the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Dominic Solanke.
“His immense technical ability has been apparent from a very young age and following his departure from Chelsea he has continued to demonstrate his capabilities at a very high level and in different environments across Europe.
“We see him as being in a similar mould to Matt Palmer and feel his arrival will give us excellent depth in the midfield area.
“With the likes of John Bostock and Dan Crowley experiencing similarly high-profile youth careers, we believe Charlie can follow in their footsteps by finding a home here at Meadow Lane and flourishing as a result.”
