Loanee excited to get going

Jaden Warner says Notts is the ‘perfect fit’ for him as he embarks on his loan spell from Norwich City.

The 21-year-old defender has chosen to join us until the end of the season, turning down the opportunity to move elsewhere after studying our playing style and speaking with new head coach Stuart Maynard.

Warner said: “As a ball-playing centre-half, it was really important for me to join the right club. I know Notts’ style is going to continue under the new gaffer, so I think it’s going to be the perfect fit for me.

“When I spoke with the head coach he struck me as a top guy with a great philosophy, which leads on nicely from the previous coach. I can’t wait to work with him.

“As soon as I heard about the opportunity to come here I was excited, and since then I’ve heard nothing but good things about the club.

“I know Juventus’ kit is inspired by Notts and that it’s the world’s oldest professional club. It’s great to be somewhere with so much history and I can already feel that there’s a real sense of togetherness, which will be brilliant to be part of.”

For Warner, first-team match experience is the main reason he wanted to leave Carrow Road on loan - but he also recognises that he’ll have the opportunity to test himself against some of the most potent attacking threats in the EFL every time he sets foot on the training pitch.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to getting more men’s football under my belt and I’m so grateful to Notts for giving me the chance to do that here.

“I’m going to be working alongside top players in training and I see that as an amazing opportunity to learn every day. I’m looking forward to getting to know all the lads this week.”

Warner is aware that he’ll be expected to contribute to various phases of play during his time at Meadow Lane and is confident he has the attributes to do just that.

He said: “I’m physical, aggressive, strong and I’d like to say I’m very quick - but I’ll let the fans judge for themselves!

“From a young age I’ve always enjoyed making tackles and blocks – and I see that as my job. But in today’s game, and at this club, defenders also have to be good on the ball and I back myself in that sense, too.”

Warner will be in contention to make his debut on Saturday when we welcome Barrow to Meadow Lane for Maynard’s first match in charge.

A big crowd is expected but it’s nothing the young defender can’t handle, having impressed in his three senior appearances for the Canaries this season.

He said: “The experience I’ve had with Norwich will have helped prepare me for playing in front of the supporters here.

“I had some nice comments from Norwich fans about my performances but I have to take that in my stride and try to earn that sort of praise every week now.”
